POSITION SUMMARY:
The Physical Therapist Assistant/Occupational Therapy
Assistant assists the Licensed Physical
Therapist/Occupational Therapist in all aspects of client
care and treats clients as directed by the Licensed Physical
Therapist/Occupational Therapist. The Physical Therapist
Assistant/Occupational Therapy Assistant is part of the
interdisciplinary team providing client care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follows plan of care established by the Physical
Therapist/Occupational Therapist. Documents clients
level of understanding and response to teaching.
- Instructs Home Health Aides as appropriate to the plan
of care and documents the teaching.
- Communicate regularly with Physical
Therapist/Occupational Therapist and Clinical Manager
regarding client problems and status.
- Willingly seeks supervision from Physical
Therapist/Occupational Therapist or Clinical Manager.
Contacts the primary Physical Therapist/Occupational
Therapist weekly for case communication.
- Maintains ongoing client documentation in clinical
progress notes following Agency policy, on a timely
basis.
- Seeks and takes advantage of learning opportunities,
both formal and informal. Keeps abreast of new
developments in physical therapy / occupational therapy.
Seek guidance for development of clinical skills from
Physical Therapist/Occupational Therapist and Clinical
Manager.
- Assists in coverage of client treatments during staff
absences.
- Orders equipment as needed with agreement from
Physical Therapist/Occupational Therapist.
- Specifically listens to voice mail by 8:30 am every
day; submits an accurate visit schedule daily; is
available by beeper at all times during the work day.
- Coordinate client's care with other community agencies
or medical facilities
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, inservices
and case conferences.
- Demonstrate knowledge of contradictions/precautions in
relation to a diagnosis and treatment. ยง Utilize
correct procedures to ensure client safety and to
protect oneself.
- Maintain high level of clinical expertise necessary to
meet the needs of the client population and recognizes
need for ongoing professional education and development
within the Agency and in the community.

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience, Education and Licensure
Graduate of a Physical Therapist
Assistant/Occupational Assistant program accredited by the
Commission. Must be licensed in the State of Massachusetts.
Must be licensed in the state where client services are
being rendered. Current driver's license.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
